September 2017 - The Netherlands

September 5 Tuesday

From Castricum, a neighboring town, we took the train to Rotterdam with a change at Amsterdam Sloterdijk.

During World War II, Rotterdam was severely damaged.  Many buildings and areas were flattened.  When it was time to rebuild the city, they decided to build back creatively.  Many buildings are experimental and so unusual.

It was a drizzly day.  We walked thru the Rotterdam Market Hall.  The Market Hall encloses an open market area with shops and restaurants on the inside ground floor.  The entire arch is made up of apartments and offices overlooking the market.

Very interesing: the Cubic Homes

The rain cut the day short.  On the way home we changed trains at Haarlem.  Impressive station.
