Broek in Waterland

We drove to Broek in Waterland.  It's an old village, as early as 1400.  It is part of the municipality of Waterland, northeast of Amsterdam.

One of the large houses has a garden with many interesting sculptures.

And, of course, there's a church.

We walked thru the village itself.  Being in Waterland, there are canals and bridges.

This bridge swivels to allow boats to pass.

Marken

Then on to Marken, also part of Waterland.  It occupies a peninsula in the Markermeer. It was formerly an island in the Zuiderzee.

The white tag on the wall indicates the highest water mark in 1916.

Holysloot

Finally we drove to the tiny village of Holysloot.  It's actually part of the municipality of Amsterdam.  We drove thru Zunderdorp and Ransdorp.

In the far distance you can see Amsterdam on the horizon, about 9km away.
