LCS House Projects Photo Album Grandma's
These chairs were a gift to Grandma Huntington's parents for their wedding
May 4, 1886. They've been painted a number of times. I started stripping one
of the chairs years ago, planning on refinishing it with a nice stain. However,
I found that the wood on the various parts doesn't really match. The chairs
were probably intended to be painted.
Original condition without seat cushion, unstripped
First chair, stripped, painted slightly off white with touches of gold; proposed
fabric and trim for seat cushion
chair was a platform rocker in Grandma's living room. Over the
years the upholstery rotted and fell apart. I took it apart
thinking I would re-upholster it. HaHa. I don't have that
skill. So I'm stripping the wood and will refinish it. Then
it will go to a professional for the upholstery.
